Welcome to our latest mini-series ‘Papatupu Papakāinga ki Taranaki’ - papakāinga as vehicles for self-determination and living as Taranaki Māori.

Growing numbers of whānau in Taranaki and throughout Aotearoa New Zealand are seeking to establish or grow their own papakāinga, not only as a practical response to housing insecurity, but as an anchor for collective identity with many levels of benefit.
Join us as whānau from three Taranaki papakāinga – at Waokena, Te Rau o Rongo and Parihaka – share their experiences of aspects of successful papakāinga development. Those aspects include whakarauora reo/Māori language revitalisation, maara kai/ community gardens and their role in achieving papakāinga aspirations and kawenga papakāinga, enabling whānau to live and thrive as Māori collectives.
