Can Older Renters Age in Place?

ASEM Global Ageing Center’s publication Issue Focus is a biannual periodical that aims to address ageing and human rights issues. The Spring/Summer 2023 edition focuses on Older Persons and the Right to Adequate Housing. Like many other countries Aotearoa/NZ has a policy of encouraging ageing in place. Affordable Housing for Generations researcher Bev James’ article explores whether older people can age in place as renters. Using the human rights framework of adequate housing, this paper argues that older renters struggle to achieve secure, affordable, and suitable housing.
