Contestable Funding Round

12 June 2017: The Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities (BBHTC) National Science Challenge (NSC) is running a Contestable Round to deliver on the challenge vision, mission, and objective. The available funding is $4.4m in total. The contestable process is set in the context of the existing Challenge research portfolio. Research funded in the contestable process should complement and build on existing research and not duplicate it.

13 July 2017: Please note that CVs are required with your application. CVs are in addition to page limits specified in the Request for Proposals. The preferred format for CVs is the New Zealand RS&T CV Template (.docx - will download).

New available funding

March 2017: Documents for the last Strategic Research Area, Kāinga Tahi Kāinga Rua, are now available.

This contestable round seeks to address the following high-level research question:
How do we collaboratively finance, design and build developments, with buy-in from multiple stakeholders, in ways that overcome discriminatory policy, legislative barriers and actively support Māori aspirations and needs for long-term, affordable and healthy housing?

The timeframe for this investment has been amended to allow sufficient time for the development of quality full proposals. The amended timeframe is outlined below:

26 June (12 noon): KTKR full proposals submitted via email to NSCinfo@branz.co.nz  Late applications will not be accepted.
12 July: Full proposals recommended for funding notified and invited to attend BBHTC Governance Group meeting on 17 July in Wellington.
12 July: Preliminary notification to non-invited applicants.
17 July: Presentation (15 minutes) by invited full proposal applicants to the BBHTC Governance Group meeting to be held in Wellington.
19 July: Notification of final outcomes to applicants and funding decisions announced.
28 July: Contract negotiation and signing completed.
1 August: Funded proposals to be initiated subject to completion of contracting process.
